Senior Front End Engineer

Help play a key role in the ongoing development and growth of our innovative modular tool suite to help make satellites simple.

Arlula is a Sydney based startup that’s scaling fast and building the software infrastructure that makes space‑to‑ground intelligence possible. We create systems that connect satellites in orbit to the people and algorithms who turn Earth Observation data into insights.

Our Earth Observation Data Infrastructure (EODI) automates how satellite and drone imagery is captured, processed, and delivered across commercial and sovereign constellations, allowing organisations to move from satellite tasking to actionable intelligence in minutes. We work with commercial, defence, intelligence and government customers globally, delivering highly technical data engineering and geospatial products across multi-tenant SaaS, private cloud, and on‑prem environments. This is real infrastructure, built for critical operations. Your code will literally connect satellite sensors to decision‑makers responding to real‑world events.

The challenge

You’ll be working inside a fast‑moving environment where geospatial data, satellite tasking, and ground‑to‑cloud workflows converge. The user interfaces you build are the front line of how operators, scientists, and governments interact with our systems. Every element you implement needs to handle real‑world complexity gracefully, be accessible, scalable, and performant under pressure. You’ll collaborate with the engineering team, product team and founders to design solutions that meet customer needs. If you enjoy bringing clarity to complexity through elegant front‑end design and implementation, this is for you.

The opportunity

We’re hiring an experienced Front‑End Developer to take ownership of the next generation of Arlula’s front end stack. You’ll be responsible for maintaining and expanding our server‑side rendered UI pipeline. This is the foundation for multiple hypermedia‑based applications that control and monitor Earth observation satellite operations. Working closely with engineers, scientists, and product teams, you’ll shape how users experience critical data and tools across commercial and sovereign deployments.

You’ll join a small, mission‑driven team where your technical decisions have immediate impact. If you want to build user interfaces that matter, power real satellite operations and help customers move from data to decision, we’d love to talk.

Role type: Full time.
Location: Sydney/Hybrid

What you’ll deliver

First 6 months

  • Maintain, update, and extend core web interfaces to ensure usability, accuracy, and reliability for customers.
  • Lead implementation of new features using server‑side rendering and modular templating frameworks.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve user interface issues, supporting customer deployments in live environments.
  • Work side‑by‑side with engineering and product peers to refine UX and accessibility standards.
  • Mentor junior developers and contribute to internal best‑practice guides for front‑end engineering.

6–24 months

  • Redesign and uplift major user interface components for improved clarity, performance, and extensibility.
  • Drive adoption of accessibility (WCAG) and usability best practices across the full product suite.
  • Help shape the evolution of the UI pipeline as we scale to more complex, multi‑tenant deployments.
  • Contribute to roadmap discussions around how our interfaces integrate across Arlula’s infrastructure and customer systems.

What you bring

Essential

  • 5+ years building and maintaining scalable, production‑grade web applications.
  • Deep proficiency with core front‑end technologies: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
  • Hands‑on experience with multi‑page, server‑rendered architectures (no reliance on client frameworks).
  • Strong understanding of vanilla JavaScript and server‑side templating systems.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines in a fast‑moving technical environment.

Highly regarded

  • Experience with Go (Golang), especially its html template library for server‑side rendering.
  • Strong grasp of UI/UX design principles and accessibility standards (WCAG).
  • Familiarity with web‑mapping technologies and geospatial UI design challenges.
  • Understanding of geospatial data formats and conventions (GeoJSON, WMS, etc.).
  • Prior exposure to Earth observation, remote sensing, or spatial analytics products.
